LEUVEN, BELGIUM and BILBAO, SPAIN – 17 September 2026—Simera Sense, a leading European provider of optical payload solutions for small satellites, today announced a strategic partnership with IDOM, one of Europe’s leading engineering and space technology companies, for the development and production of the optical system for Simera Sense’s next-generation MultiScape350™ Very High-Resolution Earth Observation imager.
The partnership brings together Simera Sense’s extensive expertise in spaceborne imaging payloads, sensor electronics, calibration, and mission optimization with IDOM’s world-renowned proficiency in advanced optical design, opto-mechanical engineering, manufacturing, and qualification of high-performance space optical systems.
Under the agreement, IDOM will lead the development and production of the Optical Front End (OFE) for the MultiScape350 payload. Simera Sense will provide the sensor subsystem, electronics, thermal management, calibration approach, satellite interface and integration architecture and overall payload productization.
The collaboration enables both organizations to draw on their strengths to deliver a world-class Earth observation imaging system to global satellite manufacturers and operators.
The MultiScape350 programme addresses surging demand for higher-resolution Earth observation imagery from commercial, civil and government customers. More than 6,500 Earth observation satellites are expected to launch by 2035 as governments expand sovereign intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance capabilities, according to Novaspace.
The MultiScape350 system will provide very high-resolution imaging capability while maintaining compatibility with the size, weight and power constraints of modern satellite platforms.
